The Diamond- 6 Powell Street
My absolute new favourite place for drinks! I’m so glad I got around to coming here as I have been wanting to go and this place has never been open on one of those jobless weekdays that I was out searching for my next watering hole. I’ve been really lazy with the pictures, but if you’ve been in here then you can see why it’s kind of an awkward place to be taking...
Dec 22nd
Haven’t had a lot of time to blog this week since I’m on a busy schedule now, but I wanted to comment that the office Christmas party at UBC Golf Club had a delicious buffet! 5 different salads, cold cuts, roast potatoes, vegetables, turkey, stuffing, roast beef, salmon/prawn/scallop medley, and arctic char. Mm. And a nice dessert buffet with an assortment of cheese, pies, tarts,...

Christmas Party Food
We had WAY too much food but that’s okay as I think everyone left full, happy, and in varying degrees of intoxication. I got to photograph just a teeny bit of what I had…not too exciting but here goes: A variety of carbs to for dipping. My homemade meatballs were a hit! Served with ketchup. An ice bath in the sink to start chilling some wine and beer. As my friend Juan informed...

Glowbal Group December features
I wanted to share this email I received from Glowbal Group for those of you looking to eat at their restaurants this month.  I indicated the ones for Trattoria in my last post but here are the ones at the other restaurants. Glowbal Prime Rib Sunday- 10oz cut with yorkshire pudding, arugula and heirloom tomato salad, and applewood cheddar poutine (I love this cheese!) for $24.00 Coast Everyday...

Trattoria Italian Kitchen- 1850 W.4th Avenue
Last night Pat tried to surprise me by making a reservation at Trattoria for another celebration, however, they don’t take reservations at the usual dinner hour so we decided to head down anyway and take a chance.  You would think that a Tuesday evening would not be a busy day for restaurants, but it seems that every day is the weekend at all of the Glowbal Group restaurants. Now I’ve...

Finch's Tea & Coffee House- 353 W. Pender,...
Thanks to Jay for taking me here today for our celebratory lunch! To Jay for his offer in a new position and to me for my first post-graduation position! Jay was craving their baguettes the afternoon before so we decided to make this our destination once I heard word of my job offer.  This place can be easy to miss as the outer decor blends in nicely with the olden aesthetics of outer...

Our Favourite Breakfast Spots
Our weekends typically consist of sleeping in and lazily deciding where to go for brunch in the morning as many people do; however, location, coffee quality, and of the moment cravings must be taken into account when these decisions are made. Pat and I are environmentalists when it comes to commuting around the city (haha!) so it’s always a battle of “how far do you want to...

Motomachi Shokudo- 740 Denman Street, Vancouver
I must thank this restaurant for inspiring me to start my blog. Some of you know that I love noodles, any kind of noodles actually. Ramen, pho, stir fried, pad thai etc. etc.- but noodles in soup tops it all, and when it’s a delicious soup, then I am in heaven, particularly on a cold day. Friday afternoon brought us to this haven, and I told Hazel that that out of all the ramen houses in...

Aoki Sushi-1888 W. Broadway
Sorry no pictures again as it was an impromptu casual lunch. However, this place is authentically run by Japanese people (as you know is hard to come by ;), has great sushi, a sushi chef wearing a Pikachu mask, and an automatic greeter as you come through the door.  If you ever go, have the simmering pork dish, and fresh oysters are only $1.75! I had to steal this collage of pictures that I...

Salmon, spiced chicken, and chili pilaf
Sorry again as I have no pictures, but I was cooking on the fly! I had salmon cooked with this particular marinade at a friend’s cabin last year. It is absolutely delicious and I think tastes even better when barbecued; alas it is too cold for that! But the marinade is in any of your local markets and is called “Famous British Columbia Salmon” Marinade and BBQ Sauce. It has a...

The Pourhouse-162 Water Street
I was absolutely impressed by the calibre of cocktails at this place! The bar staff was also very friendly, knowledgeable and provided for great conversation. Sorry I don’t have any pics as we weren’t out for dinner last night but a must try is their “Independence” cocktail, and their whiskey jacks (it doesn’t come on the rocks and has egg white, but is delish!...

Pomegranates
I finally figured out how to properly open one of these things last night.  It’s very easy but also tedious; well worth it as they are so tasty! Even Stewie was eating them along with the frozen strawberries we gave him for his teething. As you’ve probably heard, pomegranates and their juice became the new “it” food for health a couple years ago, and is touted to be full...
